So many people struggle with self-doubt, insecurity, and feeling like they aren’t good enough. And it doesn’t help that the world constantly tries to define who you are by your achievements, your appearance, your past, and even your failures!

Things like social media, culture, and the voices around you may leave you feeling like you just don’t measure up!

But God sees you differently. In His Word, He tells you exactly who you are: loved, chosen, forgiven, blessed, and more!

This bible study is designed to help you dig deep into who God says you are with over 25 Christian “I Am” statements and affirmations that are all rooted in scripture.

When you learn to embrace these truths, everything changes! Your confidence grows, shame and fear lose their grip on you, and you begin to live your life with courage and happiness, no longer defined by your circumstances or what other people say about you.

I’ve created a free printable Scripture reference sheet that you can use to explore each verse further. You can download it at the end of the article.

How To Use these “I Am” statements

Sometimes knowing who you are in Christ is one thing, but living from that place is another. Here are a few ideas on how you can make these truths a reality in your daily life:

  • Start each day with an “I am” affirmation: Before your feet hit the floor in the morning, speak one of these truths over yourself. Bonus points if you can memorize and speak the verse that goes with it! Start your day by letting God’s words shape your thoughts before the world tries to.
  • Challenge any negative thoughts: When you start feeling doubtful, fearful, or anxious, immediately counter the thought with the truth of one of the statements here. Don’t allow any negative thoughts to sneak in and take hold of your thoughts.
  • Meditate on one truth every week: Each week focus deeply on one affirmation. Write it on down, set it as your phone background, and speak it throughout your day. Within a few months your mind will be saturated with God’s truth of who you are!
  • Pray through your identity in Christ: Turn each affirmation into a prayer of gratitude. For example, “Thank you, Father, that I am Your child. Thank you that I am never alone.”
  • Stand firm even when things get tough: When anything happens that challenges your identity in Christ, plant your feet even more firmly on these truths. Remember, your identity isn’t determined by what’s happening around you, but by who God says you are.

The Statements

And now, without further ado, let’s jump in and take a look at your identity in Christ, one biblical affirmation at a time!

I Am Loved

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
(Romans 5:8)

God’s love for you is not based on your performance or perfection. He loved you before you ever knew him, and He proved that love for you with the sacrifice of His son. There is nothing you can do to change how much He loves you, so rest in the security of knowing that His everlasting love surrounds you every day!

I Am Chosen

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
(Colossians 3:12)

God has chosen you on purpose. You are not random or a mistake. God sees you, knows you, and calls you His own. Let your heart rest knowing you are wanted and chosen for a reason.

I Am Accepted

“Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.”
(Romans 15:7)

You do not have to strive to be accepted by God, this scripture says you are accepted just as you are! You also don’t need to look for acceptance, approval, or validation in the world, so stand tall knowing that God has accepted and embraced you.

I Am Approved

“On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts.”
(1 Thessalonians 2:4)

When you give your life to God, He places His divine stamp of approval on your life, not because of your performance, but because Christ lives in you. When He looks at you, He sees someone worthy of being entrusted with His plans and purpose. Live each day from this place, seeking to please God rather than chasing after human validation.

I Am Delivered

“I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.”
(Psalm 34:4)

When you are faced with fear and trouble, remember that God is your deliverer. He will answer when you call and bring you out of the darkness and into His light. You are never alone in your struggles and God is ready to rescue, heal, and restore you.

I Am Redeemed

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”
(Isaiah 43:1)

God paid the ultimate price to redeem you and bring you back to Him. You are no longer a slave to your past or to your sin. You belong to God and are precious, cleansed, and restored.

I Am Forgiven

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
(1 John 1:9)

There is no mistake you can make or sin that is too great for God’s forgiveness. God promises that when you turn to Him and accept Him into your life, he wipes your slate clean and doesn’t remember your sins anymore.
