Confidently Waiting on God (Micah 7:7)

Finding Unshakeable Confidence and Hope During Difficult Times.

Ever feel surrounded by problems, much bigger than you can solve, and all you can do is look up? That’s the backdrop of Micah 7. The prophet Micah lived in a time when his nation was a mess. There was injustice everywhere, the leadership was in shambles, and even family relationships were on the rocks. He honestly describes disappointment with people and the pain of living in a broken world.

But then, right in the middle of his questioning and despaire, Micah makes a personal declaration that’s just as real and relevant for us centuries later: I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.

The Scripture

“But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.”

Breakdown Of Micah 7:7

Let’s unpack this gem together:

“But as for me…”

Micah sees what’s going wrong all around him, but he refuses to let it take over his heart and mind. This is a personal choice. No matter what others do or how bleak circumstances seem, “as for me” – he’s taking a stand!

“I will look to the Lord;”

Instead of spiraling into overthinking, fear, or bitterness, Micah fixes his eyes on God, – His character, His promises, His ability to rescue. Looking to the Lord means turning your gaze away from the chaos and refocusing on the only one who can truly help.

“I will wait for the God of my salvation;”

Waiting here isn’t twiddling your thumbs. It’s confident anticipation. God has a track record of delivering His people. Micah waits with hope, knowing God’s not done yet.

“My God will hear me.”

What a bold faith statement! Even before the answer comes, Micah is positively sure that God hears. God cares. God’s timing is perfect, even when it looks like nothing is happening on the surface.

Faith in Action – Waiting With Eyes Up and Heart Expecting

How do you live this out when life feels overwhelming?

  • Choose your focus. When you can’t change what’s happening around you, you can still choose where you set your gaze. Try starting and ending your day by reminding yourself of who God is.
  • Wait with expectation. Trust God to show up, not necessarily when you want, but in ways that are truly best.
  • Pray bold prayers. Like Micah, declare, “My God will hear me.” Speak it over your life, your family, your disappointments.
  • Keep doing what you know is right. Even when the world feels shaky, faithfulness in the small things honors God.

Closing Prayer

Dear God,
Sometimes my problems feel so overwhelming. But like Micah, I choose to look to You today. Help me turn my eyes from worry to worship. Let Your hope rise in my heart as I wait for Your help, trusting that You hear and love me. Give me the courage to believe You’re working, even when I can’t see it, and help me be an encourager for others who are waiting too. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
